Mano Ganesan, the leader of  Tamil Progressive Alliance in Sri Lanka, has proposed the establishment of a Tamil MPs Caucus in the country’s parliament. He has written to Tamil political party leaders seeking their support and cited three reasons for the proposal:

  • express the collective desire of the Tamil people to settle within an undivided Sri Lanka,
  • commence collective dialogue with all national political parties and Sinhala community leaders,
  • request the international community and development partners to use their good offices with the Sri Lankan government.

The proposed caucus should not engage in discussing political solutions, but rather prepare the ground for such talks, and should not be a mono-ethnic apparatus. Its establishment depends on the responses Ganesan anticipates from Tamil parties.
