In a recent meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) expressed the need to address key issues before committing support in the upcoming presidential election.

Originally planned at the President’s residence, the venue was changed to the Presidential Secretariat, causing objections from SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, who expected an exclusive discussion.

Tensions arose when other party representatives were present, leading Kariyawasam to express frustration and insist on addressing specific issues before discussing the presidential election.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera suggested separate meetings due to time constraints, highlighting the differing operational approach of the SLPP.

Kariyawasam clarified that the SLPP had not yet decided on supporting any specific candidate.
