Minister Douglas Devananda addressed the ongoing issue of Sri Lankan-Indian fishermen, attributing the problem to individuals crossing the sea border, influenced by investments from fishery stakeholders.

Speaking on Sooriyan FM’s Viludhugal programme, he highlighted the fishermen’s predicament, stating that they are compelled to meet fish quotas under the threat of non-payment.

Minister Devananda urged Tamil Nadu politicians to intervene, emphasising the need to prevent such law violations, given India’s extensive sea area.

He questioned the assumption that the continuous border-crossing of hundreds of fishermen into Sri Lankan waters occurs without the knowledge of the Central Government of Tamil Nadu and India.
